I Heard it on the Radio

Benjamin Britten’s less familiar The Company of Heaven was composed for a 1937 BBC program. The music — scored for two narrators, soloists, strings, timpani, and chorus — is interwoven with texts about angels by poets such as Emily Brontë and Christina Rossetti and includes some of Britten’s earliest writing for tenor Peter Pears.

Cantate’s presentation will feature Deborah Sternberg, soprano, and David Wolff, tenor, and classical WETA 90.9’s Marilyn Cooley and David Ginder as guest narrators. Also hear seasonal music and the premier of our Young Composers’ Contest winning composition.
