St. John Passion

The third concert of Cantate’s 30th Anniversary Season features the magnificent St. John Passion of Johann Sebastian Bach − not the familiar edition based on the first version of 1724 but the less frequently sung fourth version of 1749.  Music Director Gisèle Becker will conduct the singers of Cantate, outstanding guest vocal artists, and an ensemble of period instruments that includes harpsichord and period contrabassoon.

Hear Gisèle discuss Cantate’s performance of this rare work on WETA Classical 90.9 FM’s Classical Conversations with host David Ginder.

More information about the program including artist biographies, program notes, and a text translation can be found in the official program.
