All entrants must compose an original work for mixed chorus inspired by a text selected by Cantate Music Director Gisèle Becker. The winner receives a $1000 award and, if approved by the director, a performance with travel stipend to attend the winning work’s premiere concert.

[testimonial author=”Composer Judah Adashi, 2003 YCC winner”]“I had won one or two things at that point, but to receive that kind of validation, just in terms of winning, is a nice thing. Best of all, to receive a performance from a prestigious local organization is very rewarding.”[/testimonial]
[testimonial author=”Composer Joshua Hummel, 2010 YCC winner”]“Becker extracted depth, subtle shapes, richness and lovely lines from the ensemble. Good performances with adequate interpretation and dramatic integrity happen often enough, but to have a director and ensemble take care to find and deliver a piece’s nuances is a rare treat.
Bravo Gisèle and bravo Cantate!”[/testimonial]
