Frederick Binkholder Presents the Music of Margaret Bonds
Join Maestro Frederick Binkholder for a discussion of the work of acclaimed composer, arranger, pianist and teacher Margaret Bonds. Margaret Bonds was one of the first Black composers and performers to gain wide-spread recognition in the United States and is remembered today for her popular arrangements of African-American spirituals and her frequent collaborations with Langston Hughes.
Maestro Binkholder is the Artistic Director of the Capitol Hill Chorale, Director of Choral Studies of Music at Georgetown University and Director of the Chamber Singers at Georgetown University.

Calling all choral singers and fans of choral music! Please join us for a virtual community sing-along of Fauré’s immensely beautiful Requiem. Music Director Victoria Gau will offer a presentation on the text and Faure’s spiritual and compositional approach. Maestra Gau will then conduct to a recording while participants sing along virtually (on “mute” while able to see the rest of the ensemble). Please join us for this discussion with the wonderful choral composer Ola Gjeilo! Maestra Victoria Gau will briefly present his music and play recordings of some of his ethereal works, followed by an interactive discussion and audience Q&A.
Ola Gjeilo is one of the most frequently performed composers in the choral world. Although Norwegian by birth, it is perhaps Ola’s adopted country of America that has influenced the composer’s distinctive “soundworld” the most, evolving a style that is often described as cinematic and evocative, with a lush, harmonious sound.
